The Maslenitsa Russian Culture Festival in Oman: Immersion in Traditions and Cultural Exchange
The Maslenitsa Russian Culture Festival will become an annual event in the Sultanate of Oman starting in 2026. Organized by Russian House Oman with the support of the Omani Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Russian Ministry of Culture, the Government of St. Petersburg, and the Russian Embassy, the festival was celebrated as a significant event marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Oman. Igor Egorov, Head of the Russian Community in Oman, noted the importance of the participation of a large number of diverse participants, which made the festival particularly significant. The event was open to all residents of Oman and contributed to the deepening of cultural ties between the two countries. The festival served as a platform for cultural exchange, where spectators enjoyed performances by renowned Russian ensembles, such as the Moroshka Song and Dance Theater of St. Petersburg and the Lezginka State Academic Dance Ensemble. Participants were able to immerse themselves in Russian traditions through folk dancing, trying on traditional costumes, and participating in culinary master classes on making pancakes and sweets.Guests were also invited to try their hand at playing folk musical instruments and creating matryoshka dolls, Filimonov toys, and gingerbread decorations. These hands-on experiences allowed attendees to gain a deeper understanding of the culture in a fun way.
The festival also supports the goals of Oman Vision 2040, focusing on sustainable development and local entrepreneurship. It served as a platform for Omani small and medium-sized enterprises, providing an opportunity to showcase their products and services. At the fair, guests had the opportunity to purchase authentic products from Russia and Oman.
